Football: GB women beat Cameroon 3-0

Another great performance by Team GB women saw them beat Cameroon 3-0. This puts them in a great position having played two matches and won two matches with no goals conceded and they are now guaranteed to make the quarter finals.

Captain Casey Stoney led the way by scoring at the far post to make it 1-0 after 18 minutes. Then just five minutes later, Jill Scott made it 2-0 with a low shot after collecting a clever back-heel pass from Kim Little.

Stephanie Houghton, who scored the winning goal in Great Britain’s opening match against New Zealand, sealed the win with a fierce shot towards goal from the edge of the penalty area.

There was a worrying moment when Ifeoma Dieke was taken off on a stretcher, casting doubt over her availability for the next match against Brazil. She was replaced by Sophie Bradley.

Hope Powell’s  team will face Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday 31 July (KO 7.45) to decide which of the two teams will advance as group E winners.
