Nike creates personalised M65 jackets to celebrate athletic success

July 20, 2012

This summer, Nike aims to celebrate athletic commitment, dedication and achievement at the highest level through its ‘Greatness’ campaign.

The latest step in the campaign involves one of Nike’s most iconic products, the NIKE M65 jacket, which has been adapted and custom crafted for eight of Nike’s British athletic partners.

Each of the jackets features a mantra that is personal to the individual athlete and embodies the spirit of athletic commitment and success, which is printed in red on the inside placket. Each jacket also includes the athlete’s name embroidered on a Velcro name plate and a bonded woven Union Jacket stitched on the left arm.

The selected athletes are marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe (pictured above), UK 400m hurdles national champion Perri Shakes-Drayton (pictured below), 1500m world championship silver medallist Hannah England, British record holder in the pole vault Holly Bleasdale, 5000m world champion Mo Farah, 2011 road world champion Mark Cavendish, 400m hurdles European, Commonwealth and world champion Dai Greene and NBA player Luol Deng.

Shakes-Drayton was presented her bespoke jacket by Track and Field legend Carl Lewis (pictured with Shakes-Drayton above), who has gained the same level of athletic success that Shakes-Drayton herself aims to achieve.

The personal mantras of each athlete are:

Paula Radcliffe: ‘Be the best you can be each day’

Perri Shakes-Drayton: ‘Train hard. There are no short cuts’

Hannah England: ‘Every rep. Every session. Every race’

Holly Bleasdale: ‘Believe in yourself and magic will happen’

Mo Farah: ‘Go hard or go home’

Mark Cavendish: ‘Remain the fastest. Stay the greatest’

Dai Greene: ‘100% effort, 100% of the time’

Luol Deng: ‘I’ll return to deliver’

All of the selected stars received their jackets in a custom built wooden presentation box, featuring a laser etched Union Jack.

The NIKE M65 jacket has been a success since it was launched in August 2008, thanks to its ability to combat the unpredictable elements of the British summer. Inspired by Military style, it features a Gore-Tex® performance shell that is both breathable and water-resistant. It also features a packable hood, closable cuffs, fully re-enforced taped seams and an adjustable cord for waist and hem to ensure that the wearer remains dry and comfortable, whatever the weather.
