Featherstone Rovers were awarded the 2012 Women’s Challenge Cup yesterday, after beating Bradford Thunderbirds 46-0 at Tetley’s Stadium.

Featherstone (pictured above) started well, making strong inroads into the Bradford half for Emma Slowe to score the first try.

Bradford’s scrum half Kirsty Moroney looked to attack but Featherstone’s defence held out and following a couple of sniping breaks, Dani Titterington raced over. 25 minutes in and it was 12-0 to Featherstone.

The half time score was 16-0 to Featherstone with thanks to a try scored by Paula McCourt.

The beginning of the second half saw Featherstone continue to dominate with Second Row Andrea Dobson grabbing the try, before producing a thundering hit to turn the ball over inside the Bradford 20 metre line.

This set up Lyndsay Anfield who swivelled through an attempted tackle to score. Anfield was over again shortly afterwards a well-timed pass from Katie O’Toole saw Anfield with space out wide to race over.

Despite showing great determination, Bradford’s best efforts to make a comeback failed with the Featherstone defence proving impossible to breach and on the counter Dobson raced away to score under the posts.

As the game began to break up player of the match Anfield grabbed a hat trick following an inside break and offload by Dobson. 5 minutes from time McCourt grabbed her second try as she broke a tackle and raced 30 metres to score, bringing the final result to 46-0 to Featherstone.
