British number one Anne Keothavong has been knocked out of the Bank of West Classic in Stanford, after being beaten 2-6 7-5 6-4 by Mallory Burdette in the first round.
Keothavong will now go on to represent Team GB at the London Games.
Heather Watson was also knocked out when she lost to world number 37 Yanicka Wickmayer 5-7 6-1 6-4 in the second round on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, in Sicily England’s Laura Robson beat Roberta Vinci 6-3 5-3 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals of the Italiacom Open. The 18-year-old, who is currently ranked 113th in the world, will now face Carla Suarez Navarro in the last eighth.
