London 2012: Team GB’S athletics Paralympic squad completed

The British Paralympic Association has today announced the 49 members of the Paralympics GB team who will compete in the Athletics events at the Games, which open in just 50 days time.
For 28 of the named athletes, the London Games will be their first Paralympics. Those making their debut include World Champions and record holders Hannah Cockroft and Paul Blake, as well as Jonnie Peacock who clocked 10.85 in the T44 100m in June, breaking Oscar Pistorius’s record. While competing for the first time in Athletics are Josie Pearson and Richard Whitehead who have previously represented Britain in Wheelchair Rugby and Ice Sledge hockey respectively.
Returning for her sixth Paralympics is Tracey Hinton who recently won two gold medals in T11 100m and 200m at the IPC Athletics European Championships. Also competing at the Games for the fourth time is one of the UK’s greatest ever Paralympians David Weir who won gold in the T54 800m and 1500m in Bejing in 2008. Other returning athletes include Ben Rushgrove, Mickey Bushell, Shelly Woods, Dan Greaves, Hazel Robson and Libby Clegg.
Clegg, who won a silver medal in Bejing said, “the atmosphere within the squad is so much more positive than I’ve ever experienced before, which really helps us perform.”
