Barefoot blog: Getting ready!

April 20, 2012

So it is finally with us – the weekend of the Virgin London Marathon and I am really excited!

The furthest I have run is 14 miles due to flu, so my  preparation like so many others has not been perfect. But it’s ok, I am pretty philosophical about it, I am just going to take it really steady and see how it goes.

Yesterday I went and collected my number from the Expo which was great. As you walk through the entrance the famous music is blasting out and since I blub at pretty much anything, it took all my will power not to fall to my knees in a sobbing mess!

Next up I am greeted at my check-in area by the cheery and encouraging Virgin London Marathon staff,

” are you running with a friend?” they ask “nope” I answer,

“have you ever done a marathon?” they ask “nope”,

“Training gone well?” they ask, “Not especially”,

“Looking forward to race day?” “Yes, I am…”

So here I am getting ready –  my number is on, my name is written on my shirt, I look three months pregnant due to the amount of food I have eaten and now I just need to get to the start on time.

I can’t wait, I know its going to hurt, I know I am going to suffer, but I am going to be part of one of the worlds greatest sporting events. And even better than that, I am going to spend Sunday with 35,000 like-minded people – a rare moment, which I am going to savour.

and collect my race day instructions, number, kit bad and timing chip
