Sisters in the Saddle: lateral meniscectomy

2 MRI scans, 1 x-ray resulted in confirmation last week that I have a tear in the cartilage of my right knee (lateral menisci). This might sound like bad news but after such a long period of undefined pain I am really excited to finally have an answer and better still an instant solution. A last minute cancellation provided me with an appointment for key hole surgery only a few days after my diagnosis. Mega luck.

And so, high on morphine and with a football for a knee I have emerged from an hour long surgery in which my meniscus has been tidied up and a ‘fat pad’ removed. I didn’t even realise I had fat knees, clearly I need to stop eating so many biscuits.

Recovery is estimated at 2-6 weeks although i’m getting pretty speedy on my crutches already so am optimistic i’ll be back on the road in no time.
