Marathon blog - Christmas slogging aided by Lemsip

So I have definitely participated in an alternative form of marathon training this week… shopping shopping and more shopping!

Christmas season has completely taken over and along with the splurging of mince pies and shopping sprees, unfortunately for me this also means catching the festive lurgies. This year is no different.

I went running for an hour on Monday night straight after work, but the cold did me no good and I felt a lot worse the following morning. So I decided to give myself the week off and instead take the time to rest and make sure I’m fully recovered in time for Christmas.

I’ve spent most evenings shopping; fighting the traffic to find that last car parking space and joining what seems like the end of every queue in every shop. I’ve heard the national average queuing time is one hour 30 minutes during the festive season, think I might go for internet shopping next year!
At Sportsister this week we found out that the average Brit will walk more than a marathon this Christmas as they pound the pavements searching for Christmas gifts so looking back, this has definitely backfired in my plans for a week off!

The Sanctuary Spa conducted a study and found that even despite the rise of internet shopping, Brits will still cover an average of 30 miles when scouring the high street in the run up to Christmas; whoever said that shopping was easy?! What’s more frightening is that they also found one in five people will sustain a back injury from their festive shopping. Maybe I should get back to resting…!

Happy running and Merry Christmas :-)
