Event preview: World Trampoline & Tumbling Championships
Birmingham will be hosting the World Trampoline & Tumbling Championships later this year, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for you to see world class sport live.
From 17-20 November, Birmingham’s NIA will welcome around 600 gymnasts from over 40 countries to what is one of the most prestigious in the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) calendar.
The event will act as a London 2012 qualifier so is sure to attract a top class field all vying to secure their spot for next year’s Games. It is also the first time the event is being held in the UK since 1967.
Gymansts will be competing across the three disciplines of Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini Trampoline.
Team GB member and Olympic hopeful Amanda Parker hopes a partisan home crowd can help her secure a place in next year’s Games.
The British No2 said: “This year the World Championships are extremely important because they are also the Olympic qualifiers. So we’re all going to be trying really, really hard to get those Olympic places.
“Being in the Olympics is my dream, my ultimate goal. But competition is very fierce to get into the Olympic Games, so the more support we have behind us in Birmingham, the more it will spur us on to do well.”
Team mate Zara Mclean (Tumbling) added: “I think the fact we’re competing in Birmingham will help. When we go away to other countries, the home crowd can make a real difference. We’re looking for the same lift here in Birmingham and I’m sure the home crowd will really get behind us.”
