Zumba has been given a whole new lease of life and there is now a chilly alternative to the world’s favourite workout.

Zumba has become amazingly popular over the past two years due to the fun, party atmosphere of each class. This isn’t so much about exercise but enjoying the Latin moves and grooves with a great soundtrack while burning a few hundred calories!

Zumba fans now have a fresh approach as the class moves to the snow for an even more effective workout. The resistance of the snow means your body will work even harder while remaining cool and fresh throughout your class.

Getting started

Zumba is about having fun and relaxing so join the class with this in mind. You don’t need to have done Zumba before and don’t worry about following the moves exactly. The snow will ensure you keep moving and keep your heart rate high.

You will need some warm clothes, particularly at the beginning of the class, so opt for layers you can gradually remove. Gloves are an absolute must and you have the option to rent ski jackets and pants if you really feel the cold. Snug winter boots are included with your ticket.

So what exactly do I do?

The class is very similar to regular Zumba with a mixture of Latin tunes and our favourite upbeat songs. The instructor will guide you through the dance styles which include salsa, samba, tango and hip hop and you’re free to add a few of your own moves too.

Your heavier clothing and the surface of the snow mean you have to work that little bit harder to follow the moves but there is no chance of getting hot and flustered in this class. The snow also means that you can’t stand still for too long which encourages everyone to keep moving, keep dancing and keep burning calories.

What are the benefits?

Zumba is an intense cardio workout and you will definitely feel your heart rate rise. There is an element of interval training as you combine fast dances with slower moves which gives you the chance to catch your breath and then bring your heart rate right back up again. This is the most effective way to get fit, lose weight and tone up in a fun and relaxed environment.

The snow will help tone your legs and bum even faster as you need extra control and unique movements to follow the class. It also means that you won’t be feeling hot and sweaty which encourages you to work even harder and make the most out of this high energy class.

Who does it suit?

Zumba suits just about anybody who wants an action packed class that is fun and effective. It is great for both people who don’t like exercising in the gym and fitness fanatics alike. It is perfect for all age groups and the added benefit of the snow means it is great for anyone who likes to stay cool and calm while they exercise.

The soft snow also means that there is less impact on knees so it is a great option for anyone who suffers with their joints.

Where can I do it?

Zumba on Snow classes are currently being held at the Manchester Chill Factore every Tuesday from 7pm-8pm. Sessions cost £5 per class, or 10 classes for £40, and this price includes your snow boot hire.
