Charity: Comic Relief calls on the help of Sportsiters!

July 10, 2024

Sport Relief 2012 is just around the corner, and its organisers are calling on Sportsister readers to stretch their muscles and organise a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in their local community.

As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. Last time round, in 2010, nearly half a million people took part in hundreds of events up and down the country and Sport Relief raised a record-breaking £44m.

This money is already hard at work helping poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people living unimaginably tough lives in local communities throughout the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. The organisers of Sport Relief 2012 are calling on everyone who enjoyed the event last time around to take their support one step further and organise a Mile on Sunday 25th March – helping to get even more people involved, and raising all-important cash to keep changing lives.

“A large proportion of the money raised for Sport Relief comes from a Mile event someone has organised in their local community and we are eternally grateful for their dedication and hard work,” said Alan Pomroy, Campaign Events Manager at Comic Relief.

“Sport Relief 2010 was a massive success and we are working even harder this year to make it bigger and better – but we need your help! Organising a Mile is great fun and a fantastic way to bring the whole community together, so whether you work for a local sports club, are involved with your local community centre, or just fancy getting a load of your friends, family and neighbours together for a brilliant Sunday in the park, by organising a Mile you will be helping to transform the lives of those in need.”

It couldn’t be easier to organise your own Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile and the organisers will be on hand to provide support where needed and to provide all the goodies for the event day. Visit www.sportrelief.com/the-mile/ or call 020 7820 2363 for further information or to register your interest.
