Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week Ladies Day

When: August 9, 2024

Where: Aberdeen

Details: Cowes Week one of the UK’s longest running and most successful sporting events. It now stages up to 40 daily sailing races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world.

Ladies Day will be held on the Tuesday of the jam packed week and will provide a celebration of women in sailing - one of few mainstream sports where men and women compete on equal terms.

Louise Morton was last year’s worthy winner. “I was proud to win the Ladies Day Trophy at Cowes Week last year, especially since I mostly sail with an all girl crew. Hopefully Ladies Day will encourage even more women to sail in the open classes. I hope we have proved over the last couple of years that we can compete on equal terms with the men.”

There are plenty of famous faces to watch out for during Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. The event has traditionally attracted British and foreign Royalty and Zara Phillips has raced at the event in recent years.

Other sports personalities include James Cracknell, Matthew Pinsent and David Gower. TV personalities Alan Titchmarsh, Ben Fogle and Davina McCall are also regular faces. In addition, there are the heroes of sailing who are often to be spotted out on the water: Dame Ellen MacArthur, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Ben Ainslie, Shirley Robertson, Dee Caffari, Sarah Ayton & Sarah Webb to name but a few.
