June’s challenge: London Nightrider
Filed under My year of ultimate challenges, blog
Under the cover of night on Saturday 11 June I will be taking part in my first challenge of the year, the London Nightrider.
So it seems I have really thrown myself in the deep end here by starting off with a hefty 100k bike challenge! I have only recently re-discovered the joy of travelling on two wheels thanks to the recession, the nice weather, and the donation of my mum’s lovely bike. I have never taken part in any type of organised or mass participation ride, and have certainly never done more than 20k on a bike in one go, so this could be interesting!
Normally I would start off with a smaller challenge, however this event looked fantastic and positively unique with the idea of cycling by moonlight and roaming the deserted streets of London past infamous landmarks such as the London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Canary Wharf, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace and more. The opportunity was one which was just too good to pass up.
So it looks like I will be cycling to work, the shops, training, in fact everywhere over the next few weeks to help me prepare as much as possible!
This may be an event I am looking more to complete rather than aiming for a time. Luckily I will be taking part with fellow Sportsister Katie Gormley (Sisters in the saddle) who will hopefully offer me her wisdom and expertise to complete the challenge.
