In a first-half short on goalmouth action, Liverpool’s Ruesha Littlejohn put a free-kick off target before Worrall’s 35th minute error gifted the home side victory.

Aine O’Gorman’s cross from the left-wing appeared harmless but as Worrall went to collect the ball at her near post she fumbled it into the net.

Precious Hamilton put an effort wide and Vicky Exley had a long-range shot saved by Worrall as the Belles threatened to extend their lead.

Liverpool had a great chance to level on 58 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after Amy Turner handled in the area. But Littlejohn’s spot-kick was saved by Helen Alderson and Kasia Lipka cleared off the line from Littlejohn’s follow-up.

Suzanne Lappin shot straight at Alderson soon after the penalty miss. Vicky Exley could have added a second for the Belles in the closing stages but she put a low shot wide from a good position.

There was a scare for the hosts in stoppage time when Alderson was forced to tip over Nicki Harding’s cross-shot.
