Details: Punta Umbria is to host the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, which will witness a number of top Cross Country runners battle it out to become World Champion.
The course for the competition is set in a wooded area and has a 2 km loop format with an additional 600 m section for the start and finish of each race.
Among the runners set to compete, Joseph Ebuya of Kenya, the reigning World Cross Country champion, will be looking to retain his Cross Country crown whilst athletes such as Eritrea’s World silver medallist Teklemariam Medhin, Leonard Komon, Vivian Cheruiyot and Linet Masai are all set to take part.
For the third consecutive year, world and Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele is to miss the event due to a calf injury. The Ethiopian has won a record 11 individual gold medals at previous events, as well as seven team titles.
