Cycling: Track World Cup – Day 1

February 19, 2011

A capacity crowd witnessed some truly world class racing on the first day of action in Manchester as the Track World Cup kicked off in earnest with four GB medals.

In the Women’s Team Sprint it was the Australians who finished triumphant as they beat China in the Gold medal race. However, the story of the round came from the GB duo of Becky James and Jess Varnish (4th), who eclipsed the two time world champions, Victoria Pendleton and Shanaze Reade by a massive margin of four tenths of a second.
