Badminton: Middleton and Olver triumph in Sweden
Robin Middleton and Heather Olver won their first title together when they lifted the mixed doubles crown at the Swedish International in Stockholm.
In the final they came from a game down to beat Dutch pair Dave Khodabux and Samantha Barning, despite trailing 3-0 in the final game before roaring back to win 15-21 21-9 21-14.
The title win made up for Olver’s disappointment when she and Mariana Agathangelou had to retire from their women’s doubles semi-final last night after taking the opening game.
But the win builds on Middleton and Olver’s quarter-final performances at both the Irish and Italian Internationals before Christmas marks them down as a pair to watch at the English National Championships at the National Cycling Centre from February 4 to 6.

Middleton and Olver’s win follows on from Robert Blair and Gabby White’s fine effort on Saturday in reaching the semi-finals of the Proton Malaysia Open mixed doubles.
Blair and White’s went down 21-11 21-15 in just 29 minutes against China’s Tao Jiaming and Tian Qing.
They were always up against it in the opening game but were more than a match for the Chinese pair up to 14-14 in the second before the contest slipped away from them as Tao and Tian put in a five-point surge.
Blair and White can now look forward to a world ranking boost into the top 100 based on this week’s performances, when they won five matches in reaching the last four of a Super Series event for the first time. They will now head for Seoul and next week’s Victor Korea Open.
