Cricket: England Women fourth straight T20 win against Australia

England made it four wins out of four in their T20 series against Australia today with a 13 run victory in the fourth T20 international and will be aiming for a series whitewash in the final match in Canberra tomorrow (Tuesday).

England opener Laura Marsh was named Player of the Match after her quick-fire 43 enabled the tourists to post a competitive total of 144 which also included a useful contribution of 28 from Lydia Greenway.

Laura Marsh said: “We’re delighted with another win - it was a great team performance.

“We were brave with the bat and attacked from the start and I enjoyed playing with a bit of freedom. The bowlers did well to restrict the runs on this pitch and we upped our game in the field.

“We are looking forward to the final game of the series tomorrow and carrying this momentum forward into the Test match.”

Tight bowling and fielding then restricted Australia to a total of 131-6 with Holly Colvin taking 2-25 and Marsh and Wyatt each contributing run-outs to wrap up another convincing win for Charlotte Edwards’ team.

When Australia batted spinners Marsh and Hazell opened the bowling for England and looked to tie down the Australian batters. But it was pressure in the field which claimed the first wicket with Marsh running out Meg Lanning.

As England continued to tighten the noose, Hazell saw off Leah Polton through a comfortable catch by Gunn taken just inside the ropes. And Colvin then trapped Alex Blackwell leg before from the very next ball, leaving Australia on 59-3.

With Jess Cameron also falling to Colvin, England continued to restrict the Southern Stars and a strong throw from Wyatt enabled Gunn to complete the runout of Nitschke in the 17^th over, leaving Australia chasing 36 off the last 22 balls.

The task proved well beyond them as Wyatt collected a wicket in her final spell with Rachel Haynes lofting the ball to long on where Knight took a comfortable catch.
