Challenge Wanaka 2011
When: 8-15 January, 2011
Where: Lake Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand
Details: Here’s a chance for our readers from New Zealand to get involved in an event which sees thousands of sports stars try to outdo Robert Downey Jr. and become the real-life all-conquering hybrid from that Black Sabbath hit.
‘Challenge Wanaka’ is a festival of events headlined by Saturday’s race when professional iron men and women join over 1,000 regular athletes to tackle a 226km assault course of events, including a 3.8km swim, 42.2km run and a 180km bike ride. A day of gruelling action with Lake Wanaka providing quite the glorious backdrop.
Belinda Granger, Courtney Odgen, Belinda Harper and Jimmy Johnsen are the star attractions from the world of iron distance triathlon that will be in action.
But before the finale, there are a series of events on offer for participants of all ages and abilities.
