Look hot on the slopes this year

As the UK is covered in snow, and the European ski and snowboard season fast approaching, the continent’s virginal white slopes are soon to be covered in a multi-coloured jumble of fashion horrors and bang-on-trend snow-wear.

Ski-wearEven though ski holidays are about much more than showing off how fashionable you are, we bet you’d still like to belong to the latter category and it all boils down to one main rule: When it comes to skiwear ladies, looking hot is all about being cool.

To really fit in with the trendsetters of the slopes, it’s all about going elegantly extreme rather than too fluffy and feminine. So before you hit the shops to hit the slopes; read up on these latest skiwear trends for the 2010/2011 season.

Block Colours

Following on from last year’s trend, 2010/11 snow-sports clothing still features plenty of colour, with block colours the most noticeable trend this year. Statement colour jackets and trousers, or large contrast colour sections on the same garment make up vivid outfits that stand out brightly against crisp white snow. This trend is particularly big in the Animal range this season.

Prime Colours

Red, yellow, blue and green in their most basic of forms are combined with white and black to add a retro touch to modern block-colour designs. If you’re not a pink chick, this could be the way to go for you.

Electro Colours

Mostly replacing last year’s fluoro brights (phew!), this year’s electro colours are more toned down but still vivid; like cyan, magenta and yellow with lots of bright purple and bright green mixed in as well. Avoid pastels and instead go for saturated, bright colours. Clashing colours is in too, so don’t be afraid to go against your fashion instincts and mix & not match.

Statement Prints

Bold checks and stripes feature in lots of ranges this season, with bright colours a dominating trend here. Some brands are taking checks and stripes one step further by splashing their clothing with arty prints that really stand out.

Ski-ClothingLonger Jackets

Good for powder-filled days and to avoid wet bums; many brands have started making longer jackets as standard or now include at least a few longer models in their 2010/11 collection. Basically, if you’re worried about your ‘bum looking big in that’, it’s now cool to cover it. Hurrah!

All in Ones

Creeping back in this year (yikes!) is the one-piece ski suit, with brands like Salomon and DC featuring models in their ranges. Unless you’re known amongst your friends as one of those really avant-garde fashionistas, perhaps leave this one until next year to see if the trend really sticks…

Eco-friendly clothing

Plenty of brands are mixing style with eco-friendly materials and initiatives. One example is the Vans POW collaboration which promotes awareness of the threat of global climate change to the future of snow sports. Other brands are incorporating eco-friendly materials into their clothing. Basically, it’s ‘in’ to be green, so look out for the trend.

Of course it’s no use having a cool-as-cats look unless you travel to a resort to match it. Mark Warner provide ski holidays in the all the right places, from the über-cool St Anton to the super-stylish Courchevel and everything in-between. Now you know how to look hot on the slopes this season, it’s time to hit those shops!
