Video: Rewind to the start - women in snowboarding and how it all began

Women in Snowboarding – A History is the fifth video segment from a collection cut from the 2009/2010 Swatch TTR TV Show series and is the first part of three that will focus on influential women in snowboarding.

Snowboarding1The video explores what it is to be a female snowboarding athlete and the development of the women’s sport.

Early pioneers such as Tara Dakids, Janna Meyeb-Weatherby and Stine Brun-Kjeldaas talk about the early days of snowboarding and how women pushed their way into the spotlight and began to make their mark on the sport.

The girls look at the progress that has been made – how prize money has gone from virtually non-existent to commonplace and the shift away from women having to wear men’s clothing. Talking about the emergence of female snowboard clothing, Brun-Kjeldaas said, “(before) the girls were not allowed to be seen as girls at all.”
