The woods, irons and putters have been getting a lot of use recently as the England women prepare for the World Amateur Team Championships. The team are heading to sunnier climates to join 52 other teams at the Olivos Golf Club and Buenos Aires Golf Club in Argentina.

Hannah Burke, Holly Clyburn and Kelly Tidy tee off for Enfland at Olivos on Wednesday where they will play alongside teams from Norway and Korea. The following day they will switch to Buenos Aires, along with New Zealand and Italy. The best two scores will count on each day of the four days of the event.

In the build up to the Championships, the players are working hard with England coach, Steve Robison and Captain, Jim Robinson. Steve commented, “You can never guarantee winning, but you can always guarantee that you prepare to the best of your ability – and that’s what we’re doing.”

Holly Clybun said, “We’re all working together as a good team and the golf is coming along nicely. We’re all very determined and quite confident, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We’re just taking it a step at a time and practising as hard as we can.”

The girls will have to adapt to the different courses, Hannah Burke commenting, “They’re totally different. Buenos Aires is very American with water, big greens and big bunkers while Olivos is tree-lined and the greens are smaller.”

Kelly Tidy, British champion, commented, “There’s a lot of people around, the tents are up and it’s great, a good tournament. We can’t wait to get started.”
