A day earlier, Bechtolsheimer had produced a stunning performance that was rewarded with a team silver alongside Carl Hester, Fiona Bigwood and Maria Eilberg.

World record holder Edward Gal from the Netherlands was brilliant with his majestic black stallion Moorlands Totilas, taking gold with a score of 85.66%, just one percentage mark behind the world record score they set in Aachen, Germany earlier this year.

The top 15 finishers will now contest the week’s final dressage event, the Individual Grand Prix Freestyle, on Friday.

Bechtolsheimer will also be among the major medal contenders in that category, although Gal is favourite to complete a golden hat-trick following Holland’s team title success.

Bechtolsheimer, ranked world number three heading to Kentucky, has now won world and European team silver, world individual silver and European individual bronze during the past 13 months. This is a fantastic way to continue her preparations to be an equestrian star at the London 2012 Olympics.
