The penultimate day of the British National Track Championships saw Anna Blyth take the Women’s Scratch title after a late surge from the 100% ME rider. After an impressive start from World Junior Champion, Laura Trott, but ultimately peaking too soon it was Harriett Owen and Dani King who came to claim silver and bronze respectively.
Trott attacked with 49 laps to go but after trying to take a lap the bunch chased her down and she was forced to rejoin. Hannah Rich and Marianne Brittain both attacked but the bunch was reluctant to break away and the last 10 laps of the race saw the rider positioning themselves ready for the sprint.

This was exactly the right kind of race for Blyth being a former Sprint squad rider, and she powered through the finish to take gold. After her early attack, Trott finished sixth overall.
Talking after the race, Blyth commented, “The race was really good for me tonight. It came down to a big sprint finish which was what I wanted…I knew if I could get myself to the front with a couple of laps to go, then I would have a good chance of bringing it home. I’m really happy as it seems like ages since I last won a race!”.
The riders now look ahead to the last day of the Championships with the Women’s Pursuit and Women’s Keirin in the line up.
