Golf: Golfing gold for Scotland

September 6, 2010

It was an all-British final at the European senior women’s team championships in Berlin as England and Scotland went club to club at the golfing tournament.  It was the Scots who triumphed, securing a 3-2 victory over their English opponents.

GolfLeading up to the final, both teams had played impressive golf, England defeating Switzerland 3 ½-1 ½ and Scotland overcoming Ireland 3-2.  Feeling positive after their semi final, English captain, Sue Westall, had admitted, ‘the team wont be happy with anything other than gold.’  She was under no illusions that Scotland would be a difficult team to beat and at times there was very little to separate the two.

The first points of the match went to England with foursome wins from senior champion, Caroline Marron, and senior strokeplay champion, Roz Adams.  The Scots soon struck back winning a close foursome match followed by another victory as Lorna Bennett defeated Chris Quinn on the last hole.
