Sportsister urges sports fans to follow the Women’s Rugby World Cup

Sportsister, the heartbeat of female sport in the UK, is urging sports fans across the country to back the sport of women’s rugby at the Women’s Rugby World Cup which kicks off on Friday 20 August.

To celebrate the tournament and help raise its profile throughout the sporting world Sportsister has teamed up with the RFU and Nike, sponsors of the England women’s rugby team, to bring rugby fans extensive coverage of the event.

A dedicated section on Sportsister.com has been launched and will house all the match reports, results, news and interviews from throughout the event. There will also be rugby related competitions for fans to enter and player blogs to follow.

The current issue of Sportsister’s print magazine features three members of the England squad on the front cover and has a four page women’s rugby special feature.

For the first time in the event’s history it is being held in England and the England team is confident of a victory on home soil. Having beaten the reigning world champions New Zealand for the first time in eight years at Twickenham earlier this year, captain Catherine Spencer is optimistic that this year is the one for her team. Earlier this year she led her team to their fifth successive Six Nations title.

Louise Hudson, editor and Sportsister co-founder said:

“It’s fantastic to see an event of this caliber being hosted in our own country. It’s the perfect showcase for all the teams to demonstrate just how far the sport of women’s rugby has progressed in recent years and attract more fans than ever before.

“We’re delighted here at Sportsister to be lending our support to the tournament with some high profile media coverage of the event though our online, print and social media platforms. We wish all the competing teams the best of luck and can’t wait to see who is crowned world champion on September 5th.”
