Swimming: British Synchro team finish fifth in the duet final

August 9, 2010

The British Synchronised Swimming Team continued it’s impressive rise through the world rankings with a fifth place finish in the Duet Final at the LEN European Championships in Budapest.

325563_3Jenna Randall and Olivia Allison delivered Britain’s best result at a European event since 1995 with a score of 90.300, 8.400 behind Russia in the gold medal spot followed by Spain, Ukraine and Italy.

Britain’s synchro swimmers placed eight two years ago at the same event, but climbed a further three places on Sunday with a spider themed routine which saw them overhaul close rivals, France.

British Synchro National Performance Director Biz Price has been delighted with the week’s performances and results as the athletes continued their preparations for 2012.

“We exceeded our targets despite the fact we’ve had athletes returning from injury so the results this week have even more significant as this didn’t inhibit our performance,” said Price.

“This week has seen another step up in our performances and we will be even more motivated to move up the rankings at the FINA World Cup next month.

“Our technical performances still need to improve as we close in on 2012 but the free programmes have exceeded expectations and are ahead of the curve.”
