Rugby: Wasps winger called up to England squad

August 7, 2024

Michaela Staniford has been called up to the English World Cup Squad in readiness for the Women’s Rugby World Cup (WRWC) which kicks-off at the end of this month on August 20th at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford.

Staniford replaces England squad regular Claire Allan who has picked up a knee injury in training this week. Boasting 38 caps for the international side and with a 2006 WRWC and the 2009 WRWC 7’s under her belt, the 23-year old has plenty of experience to do a good job according to the three lion’s head coach Gary Street:

“It’s really unfortunate to lose Claire. She has been at the peak of her game during our world cup camps. However, we are also really fortunate to be able to replace her with Michaela who is one of the best outside backs in the world and who has a wealth of experience in international rugby.”
