Swimming: Nyree Lewis sets new world record in short course victory

Herefordshire Paralympic swimmer Nyree Lewis broke the world record in the 100m backstroke at the British Gas Swim Wales Short Course Disability Championships in Llandudno on Saturday (17 July).

Using the meet as a warm-up event for the August’s World Championships in Eindhoven, Lewis took full advantage to post a time of 1m 28.7s

Kidderminster’s Fran O’Connor broke two British records, winning gold in the 400m freestyle and silver in the 200m freestyle, also setting a personal best in the 50m freestyle event.

Claire Cashmore, also from Kidderminster, took gold in the 100m individual medley, and bronze in both the 50m and 100m freestyle.

All three swimmers will go on to represent Team GB in the World Championships, which start in the Netherlands on 15 August.
