British tennis No.2 Katie O’Brien lost this weekend to Timea Babos from Hungary in the women’s singles final at the $25k ITF event in Woking.
17-year-old Babos took the match against 24-year-old O’Brien winning 7-5, 6-4. Babos, who beat Nigina Abduiramova of Uzbekistan in the semi finals 7-5, 6-3, is the reigning French Open and Wimbledon junior doubles champion and trains at Gosling IHPC in Hertfordshire.
O’Brien, who was third seed at the event lost to Babos, who had already beaten the event No. seed and world No. 132 Sania Mirza in round two, followed by a tight three set win over Britain ’s Laura Robson in the quarter-finals.

In her semi-final O’Brien defeated Emma Laine of Finland in three sets, coming through 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Before the final, O’Brien commented on her opponent, saying,” I know Timea is one of the top juniors in the word and she obviously played a great match against Laura Robson so it will be tough as she’s been playing some great tennis - I’ll just have to see what I can do.”
