Swimming: Hannah Miley doubles golds on final day of Championships
Hannah Miley stormed the recent Scottish National Championships with wins in the women’s 200m backstroke, 200m individual medley, 200m butterfly and 400m IM.
The wins on the final day of the Championships at Tollcross in Glasgow saw the 20-year-old double her gold medal haul.
Following her gold in the IM earlier in the week she clocked 2:13.75 in the backstroke to win by over four lengths, more than a second ahead of Georgia Hohmann.
To this she added the butterfly title on 2:13.63 and gold in the 400m IM with a time of 4:41.88. Middlesbrough’s Aimee Wilmott finished second in 4:47.42.

Speaking at the competition which doubles as Scottish trials for the Commonwealth Games in India in October, Miley said: “I’m relieved to have won that. The 200m backstroke is the one event I have been struggling to improve on and it’s still about a second out from the time I did last year but it’s felt so much better recently and I can now safely say I’m now faster than my younger brother!
“I’m a little bit gutted I was just outside the Commonwealth Games qualification time but I’m pleased with the way it went because it was a solid swim and I felt it was a controlled swim.
“Overall I can’t complain because it’s been a tough week. My backstroke has started to click again and I was happy with the way it felt and now hopefully I can progress on it and make it faster in the future.”
Also in the Championships Sara Hamilton secured a silver medal in the 50m freestyle with 26.24 but the 15-year-old was disappointed to miss out on a qualification time for Delhi.
Emily Jones was crowned the Scottish Junior champion and the women’s 400m medley relay gold medal was claimed by Edinburgh University with a time of 4:22.27.
