Netball: England undefeated in tour of Down Under

England’s squad of Commonwealth Games hopefuls are returning home undefeated in their two week Australian tour. The tour let England fine tune their skills on the court in preparation for the games in Delhi in October.

england_v_newzealandThe players faced some of the top netballers in the area, playing games against Sydney Swifts and Adelaide Thunderbirds among others. England came out on top in all seven of their games, and all their players got court time.

“We were aiming to achieve consistent delivery of performances against teams of different levels. The coaches were pretty satisfied with what we achieved, although they will always be looking for more,” said Liz Bloor, team manager and England Netball’s head of performance.

“It was a demanding tour in terms of the number of games played, which will be good preparation for Delhi,” she added. “The objective was to give all the players plenty of court time against the Australian style of play, which we achieved.”

Although 16 players travelled to Australia, not all will be able to represent England in the Commonwealth Games. The final lineup will be announced in August. Players will then travel to Jamaica at the end of August for a two test match prior to the games. England are looking to top their last performance at the Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne in which the finished third.
