Modern Pentathlon: GB women add to the medal haul at European Junior Champs

Great Britain’s pentathletes concluded a successful campaign at the European Junior Championships with a gold in the women’s relay on the closing day – their second of the championships.Katy Burke, Samantha Murray and Lydia Rosling put in a strong all-round performance to bring home the team’s second gold medal in Golega, Portugal on Sunday.

Burke, Murray and Rosling beat Poland into second place and Hungary into third after finishing fifth in the fencing, second in the swimming, fourth in the showjumping and recording the fastest overall time in the combined run/shoot.

Burke, Murray and Freyja Prentice had already won team gold in Golega, with Burke going on to win an individual silver, bringing the total medal haul to three in an impressive campaign by the Great Britain team in which Prentice also finished fourth in the women’s individual event.

Burke put in an outstanding performance at the championships, gaining an “early birthday present” of the three medals ahead of her 21st birthday on 1 June (Tuesday).
