With just weeks to go now until the Etape I am tired and slightly suspicious that I may have been overtraining a bit recently. Intentions of relaxing a bit are rather suddenly enforced after I accidentally take up flying following my close encounter with a pot hole…

Double Spin – I’m tired…
OK so this week I really should have stayed at home. I am tired even before I cycle to Putney – the first class is a struggle and I’ve got lateral knee pain. I’m slow and heavy on the bike. I think that my big ride on Saturday followed by a whole day on my feet watching the marathon has really taken its toll. Promise myself I’ll not do this next week.
Richard quietly tells me not to over do it and again talks about the power of rest. Point taken.

Wednesday 28th April
Missed opportunity
No spinning today as I’m away with work. I take this as a sign and rather than adding something else on to my training I decide to just rest.
Thursday 29th April
Yoga for cyclists
It always strikes me just how hard yoga is and yet it looks so easy. Much needed stretching of the legs, back, neck… I feel like a new woman. Rebecca is a genius!

Pot Hole = Problem
So I’m cycling to meet a friend in the pub, its raining outside, I can feel rain dripping down the inside of my coat and I’m wishing I was there already having a nice beer in the dry. Suddenly the door opens of the car just ahead of me, I swerve to miss it and drive straight into a massive pot hole.
Luckily (I think) i’m not in my SPDs and go flying through the air. I’m not quite sure what happened next, but I must have screamed as I catapulted myself across the street, as in a flash there is a group of people gathered around me including some dude naked except for his dressing gown who heard the commotion and said he just had to come out and see if I was ok.
Trying not to look down and attempting to compose myself I immediately limped back to my bike, was it OK? Well the answer was yes and no. It could have been a lot worse, bent front wheel but other than that I think its OK.
I’m pretty sure my knee (pictured above) is going to turn a delightful shade of yellow but all in all it could be worse. If I’d not clocked the car door I might be back in Homerton Hotel right now!
Obviously this means no riding for me for a few days. I’ll take my bike into see Lawrence on Tuesday and hopefully he can sort me out with a new wheel pretty quickly. I’m sure my bike will be fine and my knee will be fine but a weekend without cycling!! Will I cope. Hmm… anyone fancy a beer?
