Football: Glasgow City 8-0 Rangers

Glasgow City keep their 100% league record with an 8-0 win over Rangers at Glasgow Green.

Kat-Lindner-v-RangersCity opened the scoring in under four minutes when Leanne Ross to volleyed home at the near post. From then on City took control of the game. Jane Ross added to the lead after twenty minutes, hitting an unstoppable drive into the back of the net.

As City pressed for a third, Lucy Cook in the Rangers net did well to deny attempts from Kat Lindner. However, on form City soon made it 3-0. Lindner played the ball wide to Leanne Campbell who cut the ball back from the by-line for Donna James to score. Just before half-time Lindner was scuppered again by Cook but she got her revenge a moment later when Jane Ross set up Lindner to score from 6 yards.

In the second half City continued to barrage Cook’s goal. Three minutes after the re-start a good ball from Leanne Ross to Lindner, saw the German striker cut in at the edge of the box and hit a low hard drive into the net.

On 59 minutes Rangers were denied a consolation goal by keeper Laura Williamson who saved well at close range.

Jane Ross made it 6-0, lobbing Cook after a neat flick by Corsie sent her through on goal. Centre half Eilish McSorley got her first goal of the season converting well after a City set-piece and Jane Ross bagged a hat-trick when she rounded Cook to make it 8-0 to the home side.

City boss Peter Caulfield was delighted with the win. “We scored early which was good and settled the side. We took the game on from then, but we could have passed better in the first half if I am honest and chosen better options at times. This improved in the second and helped us play the game higher up the park and we created far more chances. Overall I am delighted with another win in the League and a clean sheet.”

Elsewhere in the League it was a high-scoring weekend, with Hibernian putting 8 past Aberdeen and Celtic thrashing Kilmarnock 19-0.
