Netball: Wildcats win keeps them in sixth position

March 21, 2024

Glasgow Wildcats produced a brave display to mount a comeback and defeat Team Northumbria away from home. The team started strongly and were forced to finish strongly to beat a Northumbria side that fell victim to a strange piece of scheduling.

Team Northumbria faced Bath away at 8pm Friday night, before flying home to meet the Wildcats for a 2pm start on Saturday. Despite being tired, the team managed to produce a fine display and only narrowly missed out on victory, falling the wrong side of a 43-48 final score line.

This is not to take anything away from the ‘Cats who deserved the win and who are looking likely to move up the table. After winning the first quarter, they fell behind after the second. In the second half they showed great determination to come back and win the match.

Mary Tough, Wildcats Assistant Coach, said, “We started the game strongly with a dominant performance from Lesley McDonald at goal-shooter. Team Northumbria came back for the second quarter with a consistent performance from Emma Lower. “

“Our impressive defence performance, with a high turnover rate allowed our shooting combination of Holmes and McNeill to close out the game with an 88% conversion rate.”
