Outdoor lovers everywhere, from walkers to polar explorers, climbers to festival goers have discovered Shewee. Sportsister puts it to the test.
This unique product has been designed to allow women to go to the loo without having to sit down, squat or remove layers. This makes it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts - especially when it’s cold or there is no undergrowth to lurk behind!
Shewee is a moulded plastic funnel that provides women with a simple, private and hygienic method of urinating without removing clothes whilst standing and sitting - in other words, wee like a man!
To use it, you simply position it under the crotch (with underwear pushed to the side), Shewee then directs urine away from the body to a suitable place, such as a toilet, a container or a conveniently located tree!

It’s easy to see why Shewee has got a loyal band of fans in the sports world. For outdoor sports like cycling, hiking and climbing it avoids that ‘getting caught short’ feeling and removes the stress of having to search for an appropriate spot to squat.
Shewee counts celebrity DJ Fearne Cotton among its fans, after her and Alesha Dixon used Shewee when they climbed Mt Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief.
But we think it comes into its own on the ski slopes or a winter hike when it’s just too cold to bare all or your layers are just too numerous to peel off.
As well as the funnels (£7.50) Shewee also have arrange of accessories too. There are specially designed cases (£4.00), extension pipes (£1.50) for when you have lots of layers on and even fly front pants (£10.00). There’s even a Shewee survival box (£30.00) containing everything you could possibly need from Shewee!
Put to the test - Danielle training for a half marathon
I tried shewee on several long runs whilst training for a half marathon. In this cold weather I often feel the need for a wee, especially as I do like to constantly sip from my water bottle to stay hydrated. In fact this is one thing that I am very serious about and often struggle to get right - how much fluid to take on is a finely tuned thing so that you do not become depleted but also are not stopping to wee the whole time. So I was more than happy to take Shewee on some of my longer runs.
I followed the advice of trying it in the shower before heading out, which was certainly worth doing. It did take a couple of attempts to get right - but this practice run gave me the confidence to take it with me. I must admit to feeling a little self conscious and nervous first time I tried it in the open air - but actually the thought of someone stumbling upon me did make me just get on with it and once successfully mastered I ran on with a big grin on my face!
I am now quite proficient and take it in it’s little bag in my waist pack - it’s very light and I don’t notice it. I am going to take it with me on the Bath Half Marathon on the 7th March because a couple of years ago I lost precious minutes queuing for the portaloo half way round. I also found on that occasion that not only had I lost time, but I also stiffened up due to the wait which then slowed me down for the next mile or so. All round, I think this is a great gadget and once you get over any worries or self consciousness it proves to be invaluable.
Shewee is available to purchase online at www.shewee.com. It can also be purchased in outdoor retailers and pharmacies throughout the UK and worldwide.
