Netball: TeamBath beat Northern Thunder in first game of the Superleague season
TeamBath made an impressive start to the new netball Superleague season after they beat Northern Thunder 54-41 last night, in the start of their bid to retain their Co-operative Superleague title.
Strong displays from Captain Pamela Cookey and Serena Guthrie saw TeamBath take control and ride to a smooth victory.

Goal shooter Asha Tett opened the scoring after the 40 seconds. Tett soon scored another after a cheeky pass from Jo Binns made its way to the shooter who gladly converted it.
The first eight minutes saw TeamBath 10-6 up, but after some accurate shooting from Northern Thunder’s Karen Greig, the visitors ended for the first interval leading 11-13.
After the break TeamBath turned up the heat again, scoring five goals with no retaliation from Northern Thunder.
Greig showed some more inspiration for Northern Thunder by scoring but it was short-lived as Jess Garland’s team out scored them 13-4 in the second quarter.
Northern Thunder, who fielded three former Bath players, Krystal Gayle, Sara Bayman and Rachel Henry had no answers for TeamBath and after a tight third quarter, they still had not dropped any points.
The fourth quarter saw much of the same and eventually the match came to an end, TeamBath winning with a 13 goal winning margin.
TeamBath coach Garland said after the game, “We’re really pleased to make a winning start to the season.
“We were lacking a little bit of sharpness tonight, but that will come with more match play.
“It was an encouraging start and we’re heading in the right direction,”
