Lane also won High Performance Coach of the Year on a night of double success for the 41 year old at the UK Coaching Awards ceremony at London’s Old Billingsgate.

The awards cap a memorable year for Lane who in 2009 guided his team to the ICC World Cup and ICC World Twenty20 titles on top of defeating Australia 4-0 in the NatWest Series and a draw in the one-off Test to retain the Ashes.

Clare Connor, ECB’s head of England women’s cricket, said: “Mark has played a key role in helping the England women’s team develop into a truly world class side and he should be congratulated on a year of unprecedented success.

“I know that Mark, the rest of the management and the entire team are already focussed on 2010 and beyond and ensuring that the team maintains its position as the best in the world and continues to inspire girls to play the game.

“It is no coincidence that as our levels of investment in women’s cricket have increased so have the performances of the national side and the number of girls playing the game and I hope we are able to continue to support them to allow these players the opportunity to fulfil their potential.”

Cricket received a third accolade at the UK Coaching Awards, winning the Coaching Intervention of the Year Award.

This was for “cricket’s education offer” in the form of eight members of the England women’s cricket team working as coaching ambassadors for the largest sports development initiative in this country: Chance to shine.
