Netball: TeamBath name squad for new Superleague campaign

November 24, 2024

TeamBath named five members of the current senior England long squad in their 14-strong squad for the coming Co-operative Superleague campaign.

The team will be captained by Pamela Cookey, one of nine players in the 2009/10 squad to feature for TeamBath in the Superleague last season. Cookey led TeamBath to victory over Mavericks in last season’s final – and also collected both the player of the final and the Superleague player of the season awards.

TeamBath head coach Jess Garland said the 2009/10 squad, which has an average age of just 21, is looking forward to the challenge of the new Superleague season. They get their campaign underway with a home contest against Northern Thunder on Thursday 10th December.

“We have combination of experience, youth and vibrancy - all things that have been trademarks of our past successes,” said Garland.

“It’s particularly good to see that some of the players that have featured in our National Talent League squad and have been at our performance centre for two or three years have now stepped up to Superleague squad.”

Talented young shooters Kirsty Delves and Rosie Allison, who both featured for TeamBath last season, return to action in TeamBath colours again for 2009/10 and are joined by Asha Tett, a member of the squad that won the inaugural Superleague title in 2005/6.

TeamBath will again have a powerful engine room in midcourt, where they can call on the services of senior England squad members Serena Guthrie and Sasha Corbin, as well as Jo Binns, who has retired from the international scene to focus on her TeamBath and work commitments.

Amanda Trounce features in the TeamBath Superleague squad for the first time, although the University of Bath Pharmacy student has captained the University’s BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) team, played for Celtic Dragons in the Superleague and for the senior Wales team. Eighteen-year-old Scarlett Williams comes into a Superleague team set-up for the first time.

The TeamBath squad features the England defensive pair of Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Stacey Francis. They are joined by Gemma Fletcher, another member of last season’s TeamBath squad. Former Celtic Dragon Lindsay Keable comes into the squad, as does Alex Sinclair, who featured in the TeamBath’s National Talent League squad last season.

TeamBath’s 2009/10 Co-operative Superleague squad is:

Pamela Cookey (captain), Rosie Allison, Kirsty Delves, Asha Tett, Sasha Corbin, Serena Guthrie, Jo Binns, Amanda Trounce, Scarlett Williams, Eboni Beckford-Chambers, Stacey Francis, Lindsay Keable, Gemma Fletcher, Alex Sinclair

TeamBath get their campaign underway at home to Northern Thunder in an 8pm start at the Sports Training Village on Thursday 10th December.

Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions and are available now. Season tickets are also available, giving admission to all eight of TeamBath’s home Superleague games and to the National Talent League fixtures - they cost £42 for adults and £30 for concessions.
