Cycling: Gold for Wendy Houvenaghel in Melbourne
Wendy Houvenaghel took gold in the individual pursuit in the second World Cup series event of the year in Melbourne, Australia.
This adds to the gold she won at the opening event in Manchester last month.
34 year old Houvenaghel, who took silver in Beijing last year, beat New Zealand’s Alison Shanks, who beat the Brit to the world title in Poland in March.

Up and coming rider Jess Varnish was racing in the women’s spring as Olympic and world championVictoria Pendleton is not racing in Melbourne. She finished in 11th spot on the day of her 19th birthday.
Britain’s strong performance at the Manchester event, where they won 10 gold medals out of 17 events has meant they have already qualified for the World Championships in Copenhagen next March.
Many riders have now opted to train at home or take part in road racing rather than travel for the remaining World Cup events.
