Asics GEL-KINSEI 3
Big news for all runners is that Asics has launched its latest shoe from its award winning KINSEI range – news that is sure to excite the legions of seriously loyal KINSEI wearers. The KINSEI 3 is being dubbed the ultimate ‘smart’ running shoe’ thanks to the new and updated technologies that allow the shoe to adapt for many different running styles.
One of the key updates is the Guidance Line System which is designed to help address the runner’s need for guidance and running efficiency. Incorporated into the shoe’s midsole and outsole, a special vertical Flex Groove design encourages the foot to maintain a constant line of progression with each stride by following the foot’s centre-of-pressure during its gait cycle, and guiding it to an ideal toe-off position. This increases running efficiency and decreases fatigue.
It’s also over 50 grams lighter than the previous KINSEI weighing just 353 grams.
Roxy Athletix autumn/winter 09 collection
Price: From £30 upwards
Best known for their surf and snowboarding wear, Roxy has launched a new line called Roxy Athletix. Aimed at fitness fans the range has a young, fashion edge as you would expect from Roxy.
The collection of separates can all be mixed and matched thanks to the versatile colour palette of grey, beige, brown and blue, livened up by powder pink, yellow, gold and silver. Roxy has turned technical features into fashion details to ensure the products function and flatter. All the motifs are reflective, there are feminine necklines, the raglan armholes allow maximum movement and have vents to allow air circulation.
Finisterre Super-fine Merino Base Layer
Colours: Rapture Pink, Slate Grey and Ivory
This Finisterre super soft Merino base layer is a winter must-have. Merino wool is breathable and anti-bacterial (meaning you can wash it less often). It also helps regulate your body temperature, keeping you cool when you’re warm and warm when you’re cool.
It’s ideal for winter surfers as you can even wear it under your wetsuit and thanks to its exothermic (giving out heat) properties it will give you an extra 30 minutes in the water. In winter you will no doubt be layering this piece, but in warmer months it looks good enough to be worn on its own too.
And as with all Finisterre products you can guarantee they have been made with the minimum impact on the environment – this fibre is sourced from Natural Tasmanian wool accredited farms and processed and knitted in EU eco-label certified spinners.

If you are heading for the snow this winter don’t forget to pack sunscreen. Winter sports carry an extremely high risk of sunburn as UV radiation is actually more severe in alpine regions than at sea level. Snow also reflects around 50 –90% of UV radiation, putting the chin and nose most at risk of sunburn.
Avène’s SPF 50+ Very High Protection Cream will keep you protected while you are on the slopes, and their Rich Skin Recovery Cream is a treat for using after a day on the snow. Paraben, fragrance and colouring-agent free, it helps restore the skin’s balance thanks to its very gentle ingredients including Avène Thermal Spring Water and Shea Butter. While the Instant Soothing Moisture Mask will relieve redness caused by cold weather and sunburn.
