Win a Speedo LZR Racer Tri-Pro suit

You can win a Speedo LZR Racer Tri-Pro suit. Plus Head GB Swimming Coach Sean Kelly gives his five top tips for training and preparing for triathlon.

Aiming to do for triathlon, what LZR Racer did for swimming, Speedo has launched its LZR Racer Tri-Pro suit.

The facts are pretty impressive: this suit is 42% lighter than the nearest competitor suit when wet, and nearly 26% lighter when dry. It also dries nearly twice as fast. That alone will make it a very appealing option for all triathletes.

The Pro suit is aimed at serious amateurs, who are looking for a high performance suit that strikes that fine balance between speed and comfort. Click here to read Sportsister’s full review of the Speedo LZR Racer Tri-Pro suit.

Triathlon swimming training tips

Head GB Swimming Coach Sean Kelly gives his five top tips for training and preparing for triathlon and his top picks on training aids:

1. To swim at optimum speed in open water the triathlete must specifically train and ultimately race swimming Freestyle (Front Crawl).

2. Try to fit in at least 1 MVo2 set (swimming near maximum speed) at least once a week, for up to 30 minutes swimming time (minimum of 10 minutes).

3 Swim in open water and always practice swimming straight by breathing forward every 4 - 8 strokes. This must be done quickly to avoid too much resistance.

4 Make sure you are used to wearing your wetsuit and ensure it is tight without being uncomfortable. Remember you need to get this off really quickly so practice before race day.

5 Aim to start quickly to avoid trouble but don’t over do it as you will pay in the second half of the race!

Recommended training aids

Speedo’s range of training aids are a great tool for improving your stroke, developing technique, building strength and adding variety to your training routine. Here are some kit bag essentials:

TRAINING FINS (pictured above left) work to increase propulsion through the water and strengthen leg muscles. The elevated position allows you to focus on arm and breathing techniques.

Speedo’s PULLKICK (pictured above right) combines the pullbuoy and kick board in one space-saving size! Pullbuoys are designed to develop upper body strength, encourage correct body position and tone shoulders, arms and back muscles. Kickboards are essential for improving kick technique and leg strength.

Speedo’s BIOFUSE Power Paddles (pictured above) are designed to create water resistance to make your arms, shoulders and back work harder. They are great for improving stroke technique, muscle tone and speed whilst reducing the risk of shoulder strain and injury.

All of Speedo’s training aids plus a full range of swimming apparel can be viewed and purchased on www.speedo.com.
