Canoeing: Neave takes home Gold and Bronze from Slalom World Championships
Lizzie Neave of the GB Canoe team won Bronze on the final day of the Slalom World Championships in Seu D’Urgell, Spain. On Sunday the 2012 Olympic hopeful was also still celebrating the Gold that she and fellow GB team-mates; Laura Blakeman and Louise Donington won in the K1 Women’s team event the day before.
Up against the legendary double Olympic Champion and World Champion of 2005, Elena Kaliska, 2006 World Champion Jana Dukatova and Austria’s Bronze Olympic medalist Violetta Oblinger Peters - Lizzie Neave comfortably made it through to the finals achieving fifth position on the final day of the Championships.
As one of the top ten boats go through to the final, Neave had a tense wait at the end of her run to see if the other countries would push her out of medal winning position, but managed to hold onto a strong third.

Neave said of her success in Spain, “I’m absolutely delighted, this has really finished off a good season and Championships.”
Unfortunately Lincolnshire’s Louise Donington did not make it through to the finals, finishing in 12th position, six seconds behind the leader - this was a personal best for Louise.
The encouraging results from the women’s K1 victory comes after Sunday’s flurry of medals; Gold, Silver and Bronze in the team events for the GB team. It was the best result for GB at a World Championships since 1983 - when the team won seven medals.
The championships are being held on the Barcelona Olympics 1992 white water course. Over 60 nations are taking part in the competition, which is a crucial race of the year, least not for Neave who is part of the British Olympic Association’s Olympic Ambitions Programme.
