Editor’s letter - September

At a time when everyone’s purse strings are feeling a little tight it’s fantastic to see the sports world coming up with some great things to do for free.

We were really excited when we heard the news that fans will able to watch England’s women’s rugby team take on the All Blacks - for free - at Twickenham.

It’s sure to be a fantastic match between two teams that are the current RBS 6 Nations champions (England) and the current world champions (New Zealand).

It will also be the first time that England’s men’s and women’s teams have played together in a double header. But even if you don’t have tickets for the men’s match you can come along for free to watch the women kicking off at 4.45pm.

Just click here for more info.

We hope that more sporting events look at this formula and see what a great idea it is for getting more people into women’s sport.

But if you are looking for something to take part in, rather than just watch from the sidelines, why not sign up for Nike’s free outdoor training events.

Three exclusive events, inspired by the NikeWomen training club are designed to strengthen body, mind and spirit. Hosted by NikeWomen master trainers, athletes, and ambassadors, these events are created for all fitness levels, and will imbue you with a passion for training outside.

These outdoor training events embody everything good about training outside. They’re free, burn more calories than a gym workout would and will boost your mood and self esteem.

Sportsister went along to one last week and loved it. There is one event left and you can sign up for free - just click here to watch a video of one of the events and sign up.

So while expensive gym memberships may have to be put on the back burner right now it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy your sport. If you have got any other suggestions of great free events then we’d love to hear from you - you can email us at [email protected] or post on the forum.
