The GB Rowing Team added a silver and bronze to their tally on the closing day of the World Championships on Poznan’s Lake Malta – bringing the overall number of medals won to nine – six Olympic, two Paralympic and one international class medal.
The silver came for the lightweight women’s quadruple scull of Jane Hall, Laura Greenhalgh, Steph Cullen and Andrea Dennis in a race won by Germany.

Sophie Hosking and Hester Goodsell were amongst the favourites for gold in the lightweight women’s double scull but had to settle for bronze in a photo-finish with Poland behind the winners from Greece.
The previous day’s finals had seen further medals in the shape of a silver for the women’s double of Anna Bebington and Annabel Vernon and a surprise silver in the women’s single sculls from Katherine Grainger.
Katherine Grainger‘s performance drew gasps of astonishment as most felt that after an average debut season, a medal might elude her. But she lead the middle part of the race and was only overhauled by the hugely experienced reigning world champion Ekaterina Karsten-Khodotovitch of Belarus.
