Rowing: GB teams into Euro finals
Great Britain’s women’s eight and quadruple scull have made it through to the Rowing World Championship finals in Poznan on Sunday.
The quartet of Ro Bradbury, Beth Rodford, Sarah Cowburn and Katie Greves finished second behind Germany with the top four teams progressing into Sunday’s final.
But the team made hard work of the first part of the race and were left trailing in fifth place after 500m. The GB quartet then moved up a gear and raced past Italy and Russia into the runners-up spot.

“We were a bit disappointed with the first half of our race today”, said Greves. “It was pretty poor and we know we will need to move up on Sunday. Still, it’s good to qualify, though”.
“Anyone can get a medal on Sunday”, added Rodford, “I think we will be in with a good chance”.
Great Britain will face Ukraine, USA, Germany, Italy and Russia in the final.
Meanwhile the women’s eight had similar problems over the first part of the course on Poznan’s Lake Malta finishing third behind Germany and the Netherlands.
“We were disappointed with our first 500m today,” said Jess Eddie, a member of the eight which finished fifth in Beijing.
“We weren’t with it at the start but then we got into our rhythm - now we’re looking forward to Sunday.”
Anna Bebington and Annabel Vernon, in the women’s double scull were winners today, too, whilst Katherine Grainger in the single scull and Olivia Whitlam and Louisa Reeve, in the women’s pair, progressed into the finals by means of second-placed finishes.
