Hockey: England’s U21 continue winning streak in the Junior Cup
England secured another win over their American hosts in the Junior World Cup tournament in Boston.
The back-and-forth game saw USA retaliate to each of England’s first two goals to equal the score. Harriet Pearce’s winning goal came 15 minutes before full-time to end the game 3-2 to England.

After a shaky start for England, Loren Sherer scored their first goal on 20 minutes, created by Cannock’s Charlotte Craddock. The Beijing Olympian beat a number of defenders down the right hand side before setting up Sherer to knock one past the back post.
The lead was short lived as Camille Ghandi levelled the score from a penalty corner just three minutes after Sherer’s goal. The score stayed 1-1 until half time.
The second half saw Craddock add her own name to the score board to put England back in the lead in the 47th minute. Katelyn Falgowski’s stick tackle on Craddock in front of the goal resulted in a penalty shot slotted past Jackie Kintzer by Craddock herself. The 2-1 score needed to be changed just a minute later as Katie Reinprecht scored to equalise the game yet again.
Pool table leaders Korea lost to Australia which left the door open for England to take pole position should they win. England coped with the pressure well and with just 13 minutes remaining, Harriet Pearce scored a penalty corner goal to put England top of Pool E.
England’s coach Craig Parnham was clearly delighted and full of praise for his team’s performance: “We were awesome! We’ve seen another fantastic team performance tonight, underpinned by a superb work rate, team spirit and bulldog fight. We looked nervy early on but we got into the game and took our chances well.”
England play Australia in the last set of Pool E fixtures on Tuesday. England need at least a draw to stay in the fight for the medals.
