English amateur Hannah Burke was one of three players who led the pre-qualifying event for the Ricoh British Women’s Open.
Burke, who shot 69 at The Berkshire, was one of eight English amateurs who progressed to final qualifying at Fairhaven on Monday, July 27th.
Altogether, 26 players from a field of 101 made it through to the next qualifying stage after returning scores on the Blue course at The Berkshire, of plus-one or better.
At final qualifying there will be 20 spots available in the championship, which takes place at Royal Lytham & St Annes from July 30th to August 2nd.
Burke shared the lead on three-under par with Ladies European Tour professionals Liz Bennett and Rachel Bell. Both were top England amateurs before joining the professional ranks.
Burke is a successful college golfer at Baylor University in Texas and is enjoying a good summer break at home. She was runner-up in the Irish open strokeplay championship after forcing a marathon seven-hole play-off, and also helped Hertfordshire to reach the County Finals.
Other England amateurs to make it through were Rachel Connor, 14-year-old Lauren Taylor, Tara Watters, Hannah Barwood, Charlotte Ellis and Ellie Givens.
