EuroHockey Indoor Nations competitions

When: 15th-17th January, 2010

Where: Rouen, France

Details: Women’s indoor Head Coach Nick Clark will be looking to get England promoted out of the Challenge division and into the second tier of indoor European competition, the Trophy division.

During their three days of competition in Rouen, France, England’s women will face Wales, France, Sweden, Croatia and Turkey in a round robin event, playing each opponent once.

Tennis Australian Open

When: Monday 18th January - Sunday 31st January

Where: Melbourne, Australia

Details: The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year. The tournament is held each January at Melbourne Park. There are men’s and women’s singles competitions; men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles; and junior’s and master’s competitions.

Rowing: Stroke for Stroke Sponsored Row

When: January 25th - 31st 2010

Where: Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing centres across the UK

Details: Siemens Plc and The Stroke Association have launched their third annual Stroke for Stroke campaign as they continue in their quest to raise awareness of strokes.

They aim to highlight the benefits of a healthy diet and regular exercise as preventions to a stroke.

Members of the public are being challenged to row 10km or more whilst being sponsored during the week, helping to raise vital funds.

As well as raising money the Siemens – the High Proformance Partner of GB Rowing and the Stroke for Stroke Association hope to show anybody, irrespective of age can suffer from a stroke, if they are not fit and healthy.

The partners have joined up with Nuffield Health to offer a free five day pass to their nationwide network of Fitness and Wellbeing Centres.

Olympic gold medalist, Zac Purchase, is backing the campaign, “Regular exercise is a key factor in staying healthy and reducing the risk of stroke, and rowing is an ideal, all-round, low-impact workout.”

Womens only Triathlon Camp

When: 28th Jan 2010 to 4th Feb 2010

Where: Lanzarote

Details: Womens only Triathlon Camp with Tanja Slater, former triathlete and competitor in two World Cycling Championships.

During the week you will be coached and train in all disciplines and meet new people. The camp caters for all abilities, from novice to elite. It’s suitable for sprint and olympic distance athletes looking to build their base training and train for triathlon races. The swimming programme involves an open water swim.

6 Nations Rugby: England V Wales

Details: England kick off their first game of the 2010 Women´s RBS 6 Nations competition 2010 with what promises to be a heated game against a strong Welsh side.

The last time the two sides met in this competition England were topped by one point, leaving the final score 16-15 at Taffs Well.

British National Squash Championships

Where: National Squash Centre, Manchester

Details: The 37th British National Squash Championships return as UK players battle it out to find who is number one. There are both men’s and women’s events, and Alison Waters will be hoping to make it to her fourth consecutive final to add to her triumph in 2008.
